For the last several years, Precision Detailing and Precision Barbers have existed side-by-side at 230 South Grand Ave. in Springfield. Owner Trevor Miller purchased the building in 2013 and opened a car-themed classic barbershop in one portion and a detailing, paint and auto body shop in the other.
Now, Miller says he is going in a different direction. “It’s been three years since I’ve cut hair full time, and good
barbers are hard to find,” he explained. The space that currently houses the barbershop will soon become a coffee shop – car-themed, of course.
“I wanted something that would bring people in and help drive our car business,” Miller said. He is working with an architect and contractor on renovations to the space and hopes to have the coffee shop ready to open within the next few months.
Miller admits it’s not his area of expertise, but said Bonnie Jones, a local barista, will be running the new business for him. “I don’t know much about coffee; I don’t drink cappuccinos and all that high-end coffee,” he said with a laugh. In addition to coffee, Miller said the shop will offer pastry items along with sandwiches and soups.
Miller said he hopes to host car meets on the weekends and says that local car clubs have already expressed an interest in having meetings in the new space. The Grind Coffee, as he plans to call the new business, will have a Route 66 theme.
