Mark and Christine Bailey thought they’d found the “forever home” for Bailey Family Insurance when they purchased their current building five years ago. But now the company is planning to move to a significantly larger location after adding additional staff and wanting to have room for future growth.
“We’re maxed out at our current location,” said Christine Bailey. “We already have someone who’s being hired next month, and there will be another person coming on board in six months. We’re always looking ahead.
The couple closed Sept. 5 on a 6,800-square-foot building at 957 Clocktower Drive. It was a retail location for BikeTek for many years until the owners retired and closed the business as of Aug. 31.
“They were a family-owned business as well, and we had an opportunity to meet them. It’s a blank slate and beautiful west-side location,” Mark Bailey said, noting the visibility from Veterans Parkway. “There are a lot of people who drive down Route 4 every day, and we want to let them know what we do.”
The couple launched Bailey Family Insurance in 2016 and operated out of rented space before purchasing an office building at 1625 S. Sixth St. in 2020. They have now listed that property at an asking price of $410,000 and note that it is “move-in ready.” It is listed for sale by owner, but they say they are willing to work with buyer’s agents.
Meanwhile, the business continues to operate out of the Sixth Street locations while renovations are underway at the new property.
“We’re working with local professionals to bring our vision to life,” said Mark, noting that the space has to be converted from retail to office use, starting with removing all the pegboards that were used to display bikes in the former showroom area.
Christine told SBJ that when the renovations are complete the new space will allow for close 20 offices but said, “It’s not just about growth, it’s about the impact. Our mission is loving the community through protection and education. We want to serve clients better and continue to be a trusted partner.”
She noted that Bailey Family Insurance takes part in many community events, either by having a presence or providing donations and sponsorships. “We’ve invested in the community and built a business, now it’s time to expand and flourish.”
Mark echoed her sentiments. “It’s been an amazing ride these past nine years. We continue to follow along the path of doing the right thing and giving back to the community.”
Mark and Christine were both named one of Springfield Business Journal’s Forty Under 40 in 2020.
