HSHS plans renovation and expansion project

HSHS St. John’s Hospital has announced plans for a $17.2 million project to renovate and expand the intensive care unit. The Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board approved the project, which will updated the existing rooms as well as add eight new ICU beds. The project also includes adding 32 beds in existing space on the third and fourth floors, bringing the total number of licensed beds to 422.

Julie Goebel, vice president of strategy for the Central Illinois Division of Hospital Sisters Health System, said, “This will enable St. John’s to make needed upgrades to our ICU and increase the number of beds in ICU and the medical-surgical areas to meet regional demand for tertiary services.”

The project is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2020 and will take three years to complete.
