Amanda Hildebrand is bringing a direct primary care model to the Ocean Breeze
Wellness and Primary Care center she recently opened on Wabash Avenue.
Under direct primary care (DPC) models, patients pay a membership feel that covers all
or most primary care services. Ocean Breeze provides membership-based primary
care, and while the center does accept some insurance plans, it also caters to patients
who don’t have insurance or are opting not to use insurance plans.
Hidebrand said the goal is to give patients more control over their healthcare and
easier access to their provider.
“I created Ocean Breeze to be more personalized,” Hildebrand said. “Too often, even as
a patient myself, I just felt rushed and unheard. I don’t want patients here to feel rushed;
I want them to have that time to tell the whole story of what is going on with their
health.”
Hildebrand, an advanced practice registered nurse and family nurse practitioner,
currently is the sole provider at Ocean Breeze. Hildebrand started her career as a
certified nursing assistant and then became a registered nurse. She worked “for many
years” as a bedside nurse in the cardiology department at Memorial Hospital before
going on to earn her APRN and FNP certifications.
Ocean Breeze, which is located at 1502 Wabash Ave., also offers wellness options such
as medical weight-loss plans, hormone optimization and IV hydration. Hildebrand said
she has worked to create a “calming, coastal environment” at the center.
“That’s why the name is Ocean Breeze,” she said. “I love the ocean, and if I could bring
it here, I would.”
