Bill Law and Randy McNeal were both managing Firestone shops when they decided to take the plunge and launch their own automotive store. CheckPoint Tire & Service Center opened in January 1998 and is still running strong today. “We wanted to get away from the corporation,” Law said. “This way we get to hang around with our families more.” CheckPoint is a full-service shop that provides auto and light truck repair along with maintenance services. When deciding on a location for the shop, Law and McNeal realized that Chatham did not have anything like what they were offering, and that solidified their decision. “We are a small community that has grown. We are all certified mechanics, and we take care of everyone and treat them fairly. That’s why we are still in business,” Law said.
