A Springfield doctor was named last week to lead a nationwide group of internal medicine specialists.
Dr. Susan Thompson Hingle, professor and internal medicine specialist at SIU School of Medicine in Springfield, was chosen as chair of the Board of Regents for the American College of Physicians at the group's annual conference held in San Diego from March 30 to April 1.
ACP has 148,000 members in countries around the globe, making it the largest medical specialty society in the world. In addition to being a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP) - an honorary designation that recognizes ongoing individual service and contributions to the practice of medicine - since 2001, Hingle previously served as a member of ACP's board and as chair of the group's Board of Governors. The Board of Governors advises the Board of Regents in policy-making.
At SIU, Hingle teaches medical students and graduate medical students, focusing on interpersonal and communication skills, the physician-patient relationship and learner assessment. Hingle's clinical expertise is in women's health, disease prevention and health promotion.
