After a decade of operations at the corner of Monroe and New streets, Nature’s Select of Springfield is preparing to move.

“After 10 years, it’s time for an upgrade. We’re ready to take things to the next level,” said owner Chris Laier.

The independent pet store will soon be relocating to 2739 S. Sixth St., sharing space in Kent Plaza with County Market, Burger Bar and other small retailers. The new location will be a bit larger, but more importantly, “it’s laid out quite a bit better than the current store is,” said Laier. He’s also optimistic that the large shopping center will provide better visibility and traffic.

“All of our customers will follow us, but I imagine we’ll pick up a lot of new customers from the additional exposure,” he said.

Laier said he’s started the process of moving over inventory and hopes to have the new location open by the end of June.

The current Nature’s Select location, a 1,400-square-foot building at 540 W. Monroe St. near Springfield High School, is listed with Todd P. Smith Commercial Real Estate for a sale price of $150,000.
