Club Car Wash is preparing to open its fourth Springfield location in four years. A "coming soon" sign is on display at 1700 W. Jefferson St. But unlike the first three locations, this one will involve remodeling an existing car wash rather than new construction.
Niemann Holdings LLC purchased the property in April 2021 for $1.6 million, according to Sangamon County tax records, and built the Haymaker's gas station, convenience store and car wash. The car wash closed earlier this month and is currently undergoing renovations.
Gerry Kettler, a spokesperson for Niemann Holdings, confirmed that the company still owns the property but has entered into an agreement for the car wash portion of it.
"Haymakers will continue to operate as usual. We have partnered with Club Car Wash, who will operate the car wash," he said.
The parent company, Quincy-based Niemann Foods, also owns and operates the County Market grocery stores in Springfield, Chatham and Sherman, the Harvest Market in Springfield and various other brands throughout Illinois, Iowa and Indiana.
Club Car Wash opened its first two Springfield locations in 2021, starting with 1001 Lincolnshire Blvd., just north of the Sixth Street Walmart. Later that year, a location opened at 2605 N. Dirksen Parkway, the site of the former Green Hyundai dealership. In 2023, Club Car Wash purchased the former Applebee’s Bar & Grill on Veterans Parkway.
Club Car Wash, based in Columbia, Missouri, was founded in 2006 as Tiger Express Car Wash and rebranded in 2019. In 2022, Club Car Wash partnered with Rapid Express Car Wash and acquired Speedy Splash Carwash, rebranding those locations under the Club Car Wash name.
The company has expanded aggressively in recent years, opening new locations in Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Iowa, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Arkansas, Wisconsin and Texas. Club Car Wash currently operates more than 150 locations in 10 states, according to the company’s website.
