Old Capitol Holiday Walks kick off on Small Business Saturday

The Old Capitol Holiday Walks kick off in downtown Springfield on Small Business Saturday, Nov. 30, the day when shoppers are reminded that when they shop local, 67 cents of each dollar spent stays in their local economy to support local roads, schools and more.

Besides shopping, other events on Small Business Saturday include free horse-drawn carriage rides, visits with Santa and Mrs. Claus plus Mr. and Mrs. Lincoln, a holiday tea and a collection for Springfield Toys for Tots.

The new plaza market will have the following vendors: Margaret Drive Art, Whimsy Tea Company, Black Cat Home Bakery, Flora Roasting Co, Independent Mary Kay Beauty Consultant Sandra Mate and the Springfield Community Broadcasters.

The official community tree lighting ceremony will take place at the Old State Capitol at 5:30 p.m. Santa and Mrs. Claus will make their grand entrance with the elves from Springfield Youth Performance Group, who will perform. The event will also include performances by three area high schools who are finalists of 98.7 WNNS’ High School Choir Competition and the winning school will be presented with a $500 check.

The Holiday Walks take place on Saturdays from 12-5 p.m. and Wednesdays from 5-8 p.m. through Dec. 21.
