Erica Cusumano owes her life to the neonatal intensive care unit at HSHS St. John’s Children’s Hospital in Springfield, so working for Hospital Sisters Health System was a natural fit.
Now, Cusumano is taking on a new role for the regional health provider with a promotion to communications manager for HSHS' Central Illinois Division. She is currently public relations representative for HSHS St. John's Hospital.
Cusumano says the new role means she will be working with St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur, St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield and Good Shepherd Hospital in Shelbyville. She will lead the communications teams at each hospital in public relations initiatives, social media strategies and internal communications.
"I am very honored and humbled to receive this promotion," Cusumano said. "I love HSHS and all that we are able to accomplish in a faith-based healthcare system. So many miracles happen in our hospitals. Being asked to help lead the team that tells those stories is an amazing opportunity."
A Springfield native, Cusumano says she has been able to share her own story to help families with children in the St. John's neonatal intensive care unit.
"The families I’ve met in my first three years with the system, at St. John’s, have changed my life," she said.
