100+ Who Care of Springfield will host their 3rd annual giving event at the Illinois REALTORS, 522 S. 5th Street, on Oct. 11 from 5-6:30 p.m.
This grassroots fundraising concept is popping up all around the country. The Springfield chapter was formed three years ago from a project started through Leadership Springfield, a leadership program offered through the Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce. The goal is to fill the room with 100 people whom have paid $100 each, totaling $10,000. Each person nominates their favorite charity. Three charities are drawn at random and a representative tells their story before the crowd votes on their favorite. The charity of choice then receives 100% of the proceeds. Within 100 minutes, $10,000 is raised for a Sangamon County charity.
The event is open to the public and the cost is $100/person, or $150/couple, which includes hors doeuvres, beer and wine. Tickets can be purchased here.
The first years recipient was The James Project, who used the funds to help with improvements on their homes and pay ahead on their mortgages. The second year benefitted Compass for Kids. Their winnings supported Camp Compass, a summer camp for underserved youth in Springfield.
